*The rifle shown is a .54 caliber 1859 percussion rifle with 22" barrel.  This 153-year-old gun is in very good condition overall, excellent bore, brass mounted, has some original blueing and case hardening in protected areas.  Has one blemish on left hand side of the forearm (see photo).  View close-up photos by clicking on the "View More Images" underneath the photo.

Sharps rifles were the brain child of Christian Sharps, who patented his first rifle in 1848.  The sturdy and practical design of this gun made it a very popular weapon for soldiers, hunters, and abolitionists in the 1850’s.  Christian designed and patented the first breech loading rifle in 1851 and contacted the firm of Robbins & Lawrence in Vermont to manufacture it.

* Antique firearms require proof of age - you must be OVER 18 years of age.  Some areas still require an FFL transfer for antique firearms (i.e. NY, NJ, etc): check with your state before purchasing.  This firearm is pre-1898 and conforms to Federal laws.  If your state, country, city or county requires a permit, please mail to Cochise Leather, 267 E. Apache Way, Cochise, AZ 85606.

**Firearms are sold as collector's items only.  We take no liability, expressed or implied, as to the shooting safety of any firearm.  They should not be loaded or fired unless checked by a competent gunsmith.
