This is a replica of the gunbelt and holster worn by Paladin played by Richard Boone in the classic western TV series "Have Gun - Will Travel" that was shown on CBS from 1957 thru 1963. The show was about a gentleman gunslinger known as Paladin (whose real name is never revealed), who preferred to settle problems without violence. However, when all else failed and he was forced to fight he always excelled and the issues were resolved. Paladin lived in the Hotel Carlton in San Francisco where he enjoyed a lifestyle that included fancy clothes, attending the opera, eating gourmet foods, drinking fine wines and smoking the best cigars. When working he dressed completely in black, including a black hat with a band of silver conchos and a custom holster with a silver chess knight on it.

In the TV show Paladin used a calling card with a chess piece and considered himself a "champion for hire". The series theme song refers to him as "a knight without armor" and in the show Paladin says about the movement of the knight chess piece, "Its a chess piece, the most versatile on the board. It can move in eight different directions, over obstacles, and it's always unexpected." As a West Point graduate and Union officer in the Civil War he had a deep respect for the law and believed in legal and moral principles. "Have Gun - Will Travel" was made into a radio show and broadcast 106 episodes on CBS from 1958 thru 1960. To learn more interesting facts about this show click here

The Paladin holster is made of two pieces of 4-5 oz. leather, laminated nap-sides together so the smooth side is out. This process gives the holster more strength and durability. The gunbelt is made of 9-10 oz. leather with smooth calfskin lining. The entire rig is has nylon stitching for durability and comes with either a brass or nickel buckle.
