The U.S. Marshall - Tombstone Arizona badge is a replica of the badges worn in the Arizona Territory by the U.S. Marshals as they rode through the territory keeping the peace, law and order in the rough and tumble territorial days.  The star is set within a circle with U.S. Marshal on the top and Arizona Territory on the bottom of the circle.  Made by Cochise Leather in their shop located just minutes from Tombstone, Arizona.

The United States Marshals were created in 1789 and is the oldest American federal law enforcement office.  During the settlement of the west, marshals were often the only law enforcement as many settlements did not have any local government or a sheriff.  On a daily basis they rode numerous miles covering the jurisdiction that they were assigned. They also assisted as needed the local sheriff of established towns as their assignment overlapped the towns since they were classified federal law enforcement.

Around the time of the infamous gunfight at the OK Corral in Tombstone, AZ the Earp’s, Morgan, Virgil and Wyatt became Deputy US Marshalls. Morgan was still one when he was shot and killed, Wyatt was when he was shot and wounded.

The Arizona Territory U.S. Marshals office was established on February 24, 1863 and Milton B. Duffield became the first territorial U.S. Marshall. On April 10, 1884.  The United States Marshals became the United States Marshals Service in 1969.  The official United States Marshals Museum is located in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
